The MOSCOT Story

The MOSCOT Story

With our move to our South Windsor location in 2021, we added MOSCOT to our eyewear collection. MOSCOT is a New York City institution renowned worldwide for its iconic eyewear. MOSCOT infuses its unmistakably refined, downtown aesthetic with over 100 years of eyewear expertise and unparalleled craftsmanship to create its timeless eyewear. While now recognized as a global fashion brand, MOSCOT remains, at heart, a neighborhood optical. We resonated with their story at Soulliere Optical and are the exclusive carrier of MOSCOT in our region.

We saw many similarities between the MOSCOT Story and our story so it was an easy choice to bring this line to Windsor/Essex. Classic, Iconic, Authentic are all words to describe this company and we are proud to showcase these frames at our Optical. We started our collection with just a small sample of frames and let's just say that we now have an extensive selection on display and this is all due to the reception from our amazing clients over this past year! We are also the only Optical who carries MOSCOT in the radius from here to close to Toronto.

Let's talk about their LEMTOSH Model since this is one of their most iconic designs and a fan favourite. It is one of theirs bestsellers and proving to be one of ours as well. This frame is is worn by the Soulliere Optical team on a daily basis and they are our go to sunglasses for an everyday pair of shades. The Lemtosh is a rounder classic that is very flattering and is a popular choice among artists and creatives! It is made of Italian acetate and designed and prototyped by 5th generation, Zack Moscot in NYC.

And here's another model, the VANTZ. From the MOSCOT description "If the LEMTOSH had a smart Aleck little brother, his name would be VANTZ". Similar curves and feel but with its own distinct personality. They basically share the same DNA but each has its own flare. and the VANTZ comes in some fairly cool colours, like this one in Brown/Bamboo.

The MOSCOT brand has a history of being inspired by Artists and vice versa. Here are a few models created that play homage to some classic characters

  • Justin Theroux is a long time customer and fan of the brand and had a frame named after him that was based on the frames that his character wore in the movie Mulholland Drive.
  • Johnny Depp made the LEMTOSH famous back in 2004 when his movie "The Secret Window" came out.
  • In 2014, a limited edition "Grunya" frame was designed in collaboration with The Roots frontman, Tariq Trotter.
  • Other fans include Rasheda Jones, Sam Shepard, Paul Rudd, Ilana Glazer from Broad City and so many more.

Longstanding businesses like MOSCOT that still stand tall and are leaders in their industry after so many years are simply inspiring. Slight changes with each generation to keep it relevant and the reminiscent feel of the brand while staying current with today's world are what sets them apart. We are a second generation business and although we do not have the years behind us that MOSCOT does, we understand the nature of a family run business and strive each day to keep moving forward so that we can continue to do what we love to do.
